Come and have a lively and engaging experience at the National Taiwan Museum (NTM)! NTM has now launched an upgraded version of the app “NTM Smart+”. With the integration of AR technology, visitors can see the Formosan black bear and clouded leopard come to life in galleries by using the app on smartphones. Visitors can also explore a 3D map of ancient Taiwan and enjoy puzzle games in the app. Welcome to NTM to unlock an educational experience with AR and nature!
NTM developed “NTM Smart+” in 2022 under the guidance of the Ministry of Culture’s “Smart Museum Upgrade Demonstration Program”, aiming to provide visitors with a smarter visiting experience. The recently upgraded app makes possible the presentation of exhibits from different periods displayed in the same space through AR animation. For example, visitors can see an animation of the statues of former Taiwan Soutoku (the Governor-General of Taiwan during Japanese rule) at where the vases are located in the first-floor hall, along with the geometric patterns on the floor which were present when the museum was first built.
Descriptions of displayed exhibits are available by scanning with the app. This enables an engaging and immersive visiting experience for the visitors. With the app, in the permanent exhibition halls, “People of Taiwan” and “Nature of Taiwan”, visitors can see the taxidermy Formosan black bear and clouded leopard wandering around in the gallery. There are also some puzzle games and exploration tasks, and after solving the puzzles, visitors can unlock special filters to take photos and share them on social media.
“NTM Smart+” features 1,700 objects from NTM collection, with exhibition texts available both in Mandarin and English. Integrating the latest AR technology, together with the elements of image, sound, model, and animation, the app encapsulates the natural and cultural essence of Taiwan, making it conveniently accessible to visitors. The guides for the permanent exhibitions at NTM, including “Exploring Taiwan” and “Discovering Taiwan”, are also available with the utilization of spatial modeling and digital recognition technology, allowing visitors to learn more about the exhibits and ecological knowledge.
